Personal Finances

Personal Financial Management (PFM) Education, Training, & Counseling Program

Managing personal finances remains a top concern for DON personnel and family members. Financial issues for Service members can have a direct impact on readiness and retention. In many cases, resultant financial problems have had a serious negative impact on DON personnel and families, as well as a significant effect on operational readiness, morale, and retention.

Service members and the DON have a joint responsibility to address personal financial obligations. Members have an obligation to meet the financial needs of their families and discharge their just financial debts in a timely fashion. The DON promotes sound financial practices, personal integrity, and responsibility among its members.

This is accomplished both at the command and installation level through qualified Command Financial Specialist (CFS) and certified Personal Financial Managers (PFMs) who work within the Fleet & Family Support Center umbrella. Both CFS and PFMs provide factual, unbiased financial counseling to service members and families upon request regardless of service affiliation or location and assist them with developing skills and strategies to meet financial goals and achieve and maintain financial readiness.

Looking to become a CFS? We offer the week-long CFS course both in-person and virtually.
