Clinical Counseling & Virtual Clinical Counseling


We all experience ups and downs in life. At some point just about everyone needs help coping with the stress caused by life's many challenges. Stress can be caused by family hardships, marital conflicts, parent/child issues, money concerns, frequent moves, health and environmental factors and other difficulties.  Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSC) offer confidential counseling by professional, licensed clinicians. Clinical counseling services are free of charge to active-duty personnel and family members.

If you are interested in FFSC’s Clinical Counseling service, you do not need a referral from your command, from Tri-Care, or your primary care physician. Just call your local Fleet and Family Support Center to make an appointment.

Services offered by FFSC include:

  • Short-term solutions focused clinical counseling for individuals, couples and families.
  • Crisis intervention and/or response to disasters and other catastrophes.
  • Group counseling and/or educational groups.
  • Referral to other military and community resources.

Clinical counseling is short-term, solutions focused intended to support Sailors and their families with problems in daily living including difficulty adjusting to the military, relationship issues, programs in parenting, personal crisis, and grief, that can have a negative effect upon military. readiness. 

At Fleet and Family Support Centers, all clinical counselors are independently licensed mental health professionals who offer a wide scope of education, preventative, and therapeutic services to promote an improved quality of life and increased resilience in individuals and Navy families.

Virtual Clinical Counseling - Virtual Clinical Counseling (VCC) augments in-person clinical counseling services. VCC offers the same quality counseling services, but in a virtual format via a Navy approved platform (Microsoft Teams).  Sailors and families can access the service from the privacy of their own homes or other private space. Deployed Resiliency Counselor
 - DRCs are professional, licensed civilian clinicians assigned to all aircraft carriers (CVNs) and large deck amphibious assault ships (LHDs/LHAs) throughout the Navy. DRCs represent the larger Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) while at sea. DRCs provide non-medical counseling and regularly liaise with various Fleet and Family Support Programs (FFSP) such as Sailor Acceptance and Intercept for Life (SAIL), Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) victim advocacy, Family Advocacy Program (FAP), and coordinate with EIPCs to provide psychoeducational training support on ships in homeport and deployed.
