virtual Work and Family Life

Welcome to the Fleet and Family Support Program’s virtual Work and Family Life (vWFL).


In addition to in-person services at Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSCs) the vWFL program offers online training workshops, mobile training delivery, and one-on-one consultations supporting commands, Sailors, and their families, especially in geographically isolated and remote locations.

Daily Navy life can be challenging especially while stationed in remote duty stations or underway that can have a negative effect of morale and readiness upon commands, Sailors, and their families. The Navy’s vWFL program has responded to the needs of the force by adding a remote and virtual programs to provide multiple service and support options. This program has expanded its reach with highly trained professionals to provide online services to Sailors and their eligible family members regardless of their location.

vWFL is a Navy-approved platform to assist commands, Sailors, and their families with training and education to assist with everything from transition assistance, personal finance, life skills, to everyday Navy life.

Q: What is the virtual Work & Family Life program?
A: The virtual Work and Family Life program is an added program to meet an increased demand to access our prevention and resilience-building education and training programs and continue to provide high-quality services to commands, Sailors, and Navy families who are underway, stationed in geo-graphically isolated and remote locations, and don’t have access to FFSC programs that are offered at most Navy installations.

Q: Why is the virtual Work & Family Life program needed?
A: The FFSP service delivery is transforming to provide more flexible, accessible, and effective support structure, while adapting to a changing landscape, and leveraging traditional service modes with innovative strategies to better reach today’s commands, Sailors and Navy families. 

Q: What does the program provide?
A: The virtual Work and Family Life program provides:
  • Online workshops and mobile training delivery, supporting commands, Sailors, and their families, especially in geographically isolated and remote locations.
  • An additional avenue for support services by using online training, deployed mobile training teams, and individual training for commands, service members & Navy families. Especially those located in remote duty stations or underway.
  • A wide scope of educational, preventive, and therapeutic services to promote an improved quality of life and increase resilience in individuals and Navy families.
Q: Is the vWFL program only for remote locations?
A: Yes, the program is currently available to commands, Sailors, and their families in geographically isolated and remote locations.

Q: Is there a pilot program? If so, when and where is it starting?
A: We have a phased launch, and services will be available throughout Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) by 1 March 2025. A soft launch will be initiated in PACFLT area of responsibility on 15 December 2024.

Q: How do I request service?
A: The command/installation sends a request, at least 30 days in advance, via request link.

Q: Who is eligible to request this service?
A: To be eligible for this service expansion a command must be:
  • Recruiting or Reserve command (more than 50 miles from a Navy installation)
  • Remote and isolated designated installations
  • Deployed Command: a ship may be afloat or pier-side; unit may be shore-based CONUS or OCONUS
  • vWFL trainings cover a wide scope of educational, preventative, and therapeutic services to promote an improved quality of life and increase resilience to individuals and Navy families.
Q: What services are available in the vWFL program?
A: The virtual Work and Family Life program offers online resilience education workshops, individual consultations and mobile training team support in the following areas:

Q: Can I receive marriage counseling or anger management through vWFL?
A: No, the vWFL is strictly for Work & Family Life programs. If marriage counseling or other counselling concerning advocacy and prevention is needed personnel can request virtual Clinical Counseling through the Counseling, Advocacy, and Prevention Program.
